The Fable Season 2 will add six cast members, including Koichi Yamadera as Yamaoka, when the hitman anime returns to Japanese television on January 9, 2027. The announcement also confirms the broadcast time and unveils a new key visual. 1

The series is based on Katsuhisa Minami's manga and is titled The Fable (ザ・ファブル) in Japanese. The newly announced cast also includes Takanori Hoshino as Azami, Hiroyuki Yoshino as Yukari, Taiten Kusunoki as Jiro, Satoshi Mikami as Koji Mizuno and Seiyu Fujiwara as Suzumushi. 2

A January return for The Fable

The second season will air on NTV and other Japanese broadcasters from January 9 at 12:55 a.m. JST, which is technically January 10. Ryosuke Takahashi returns to direct at Tezuka Productions, with Yuya Takashima and Mayumi Morita handling the scripts. 2

VAP's official announcement places the new season's story around the Yamaoka arc, with Akira Sato once again trying to live peacefully while obeying his employer's order not to kill. The newly released visual puts Akira in the foreground alongside Yamaoka, Azami, Yuko and the other returning characters. 1

The first season premiered in April 2024 and is available internationally through Disney+, while Hulu carries it in the United States. The streaming details for Season 2 have not yet been announced in the sources available for this report. 2

Our opinion

This is the sort of sequel update that gives The Fable a clear reason to return to the news feed: it adds identifiable cast members, confirms a concrete Japanese broadcast date and signals the arc that will drive the new season. The January 9 slot is useful information for Japanese viewers, while international fans will still need a separate streaming announcement before they know when they can watch it.

The Yamaoka focus also suggests a more dangerous escalation than a routine continuation, but that is an expectation rather than a confirmed plot detail. For now, the official cast and broadcast information is enough to make this a solid early look at one of 2027's returning anime.
