The Irregular at Magic High School movie sets US cinema dates
The Yotsuba Succession Arc film will screen in the US and Canada on November 1, 3 and 4, with subbed and dubbed showings.
Tickets are now on sale for The Irregular at Magic High School THE MOVIE - Yotsuba Succession Arc-, with the film heading to cinemas across the United States and Canada on November 1, 3 and 4. Crunchyroll and the official franchise account announced the dates on October 16, confirming that audiences can choose between Japanese audio with English subtitles and an English dub.
The limited theatrical run gives the film a clear North American release window, but it also means fans will need to check local listings rather than expect a conventional multi-week cinema rollout. Fandango listings are already live, with showtimes varying by venue. The film runs for 1 hour and 44 minutes, according to the current ticket information.
The Yotsuba Succession Arc reaches North America
The film adapts the Yotsuba Succession Arc from Tsutomu Sato's light-novel series. It follows Tatsuya Shiba and his sister Miyuki as they approach a New Year's Banquet where the Yotsuba Clan is set to name its next head. Miyuki faces the possibility of taking the role, a decision that could also change Tatsuya's long-standing position as her Guardian.
That setup gives the movie a particularly important place in the wider story. The official synopsis teases a hidden truth between the siblings, while the theatrical release brings one of the franchise's most prominent arcs to audiences who have followed the television anime and earlier film.
The movie originally opened in Japan on May 8. Its newly announced international dates begin with Australia on October 29, followed by the United States and Canada on November 1, 3 and 4. Mexico receives screenings on November 3 and 4, the United Kingdom on November 4 and 5, and France on November 9 and 10.
Official trailer and returning cast
Aniplex USA has released Official Trailer #2, giving international viewers a closer look at the film before booking a ticket. The trailer features Tatsuya and Miyuki, along with the film's futuristic magic technology and the conflict surrounding the Yotsuba family.
Jimmy Stone directs at Eight Bit, with Kana Ishida handling character design and serving as chief animation director. Muneo Nakamoto wrote the screenplay, while Taku Iwasaki composed the music. LiSA performs the theme song, "YES."
Yuichi Nakamura and Saori Hayami return as Tatsuya and Miyuki. The wider cast includes Chiwa Saito as Maya Yotsuba, Daisuke Ono as Katsushige Shibata, Ai Kayano as Yuuka Tsukuba, and Emiri Kato and Maaya Uchida as the Kuroba twins.
What happens next for the franchise
The Irregular at Magic High School began as a web novel before becoming a long-running light-novel series under the Dengeki Bunko imprint. Its television anime premiered in 2014, followed by the film The Girl Who Summons the Stars, later seasons and the Honor at Magic High School spin-off. Crunchyroll streams the television anime.
The Yotsuba Succession Arc is not being positioned as the franchise's final screen story. The official Japanese site announced in June that production had begun on a second part of the anime, giving the theatrical film a role in a continuing adaptation rather than a standalone endpoint.
Our opinion
A short, date-specific cinema run makes this a useful release for fans rather than a vague future promise: the film has confirmed North American dates, ticket listings and both subbed and dubbed options. The practical takeaway is simple — check the local Fandango listing early, because the three-day US and Canadian window leaves less room for a last-minute cinema trip than a normal wide release.
