Are You a Landmine, Chihara-san? anime sets 7 January 2027 premiere
Are You a Landmine, Chihara-san? will join Japan's Super Animeism Turbo block on 7 January 2027, with streaming details still to come.
The Are You a Landmine, Chihara-san? anime will premiere on 7 January 2027, with its first episode scheduled for 12:26 a.m. JST in the Super Animeism Turbo programming block on MBS, TBS and 26 affiliated channels. That is effectively Friday morning in Japan, despite the Thursday listing. 1
The series adapts Ryon's manga, titled Jirai nandesu ka? Chihara-san in Japanese (地雷なんですか?地原さん). It follows Kuroki, a quiet high-school student who is seated beside Mai Chihara, a girl whose gothic fashion and intense expression have earned her a “landmine” reputation. The official synopsis says that her behaviour is rather different when seen up close, setting up a school comedy built around the pair's awkward misunderstandings. 1
The January date follows an earlier delay. The production had previously been announced for 2026, but the official anime site now lists 7 January 2027 as the broadcast start. The same schedule places the show in a simultaneous nationwide broadcast slot across the MBS/TBS network, rather than announcing a streaming service: the official site still lists streaming as “coming soon”. 1
The announced cast includes Sayumi Suzushiro as Mai Chihara, Kazuki Ura as Kuroki, Maaya Uchida as Chinatsu Iwakura, Tomokazu Sugita as Hibiya and Daisuke Ono as Kazami. Yasuaki Fujii directs at Synergy SP, with Keiichiro Ochi handling series composition, Majiro designing the characters and Arisa Okehazama composing the music. 2
The anime's official website has also published a teaser promotional video and character artwork. That promotional push gives the January date some useful context: this is no longer just a broad 2027 window, but a fixed broadcast slot with the principal cast and staff in place. 12
Our opinion
A dated broadcast slot is the right sort of update for this adaptation because it turns a vague seasonal promise into something viewers can actually plan around. The premise is easy to understand, the cast is clearly defined and the official site is already presenting the show as a January launch. The remaining question is how the anime handles the manga's deliberately prickly “landmine girl” label without reducing Mai to a stereotype. For now, the confirmed date and the creative team make this one worth keeping on the winter 2027 watchlist.
