Arknights announces Rhodes Academy spin-off short anime
Arknights has announced Rhodes Academy, a school-set spin-off short anime with no release date or platform confirmed yet.
Arknights is turning its Rhodes Island cast into a school comedy with Rhodes Academy, a newly announced spin-off short anime. The project was revealed through the game's official channels on October 24, but there is no release date, streaming platform, studio or episode count yet. 1
The announcement video places familiar Arknights characters on a school campus, giving the project a much lighter setting than the main game's dystopian conflicts. Its Japanese title is Rodosu Gakuen (ロドス学園), a direct reference to Rhodes Island's English name and the academy premise shown in the promotional footage. 1
What has been announced
The official Arknights YouTube channel posted the promotional video, while the game's official Japanese X account shared the announcement. The footage confirms the school setting and the involvement of Arknights characters, but it deliberately stops short of explaining how the short anime will be released. 1
That means there is no confirmed launch window to report and no platform attached to the project. It is also too early to say whether Rhodes Academy will be a one-off short, a series of shorts or a larger spin-off. The announcement has not named a production studio or given an episode total.
The school-world framing is still a meaningful change of tone. Arknights has built its animated identity around serious stories: Arknights Animation: Prelude to Dawn premiered in 2022, followed by Perish in Frost in 2023 and Rise from Ember in 2025. Yostar Pictures animated those television projects, but the new announcement does not confirm that the studio is returning for Rhodes Academy. 1
A lighter side of Arknights
The mobile game is a tower-defence RPG, and its promotional animation has often used short-form videos to explore characters and situations outside the main campaign. A school setting gives the franchise room to play with relationships, routines and comedy without needing to resolve the political and military stakes of the core story.
The announcement image leans into that contrast. Characters appear among school buildings and uniforms, with the title presented as a bright, playful badge rather than a grim campaign notice. That does not tell us how substantial the final project will be, but it does make the spin-off's intent clear: this is an Arknights side story built around a different mood.
For UK and international viewers, availability is the obvious unanswered question. Crunchyroll carries the existing Arknights television anime in the UK and many other territories, but there is no confirmation that it will handle this short. Until Yostar or the official Arknights channels provide more details, the only safe conclusion is that the project has been announced, not dated.
Our opinion
Rhodes Academy is a smart way to let Arknights show off its cast without asking another anime to repeat the main series' bleakest beats. The school setting should make character chemistry the selling point, and the announcement's deliberately playful imagery suggests the team understands that a spin-off needs its own identity.
The lack of a release date or format makes this a promise rather than a proper rollout, though. We would rather see the project establish a clear short-form plan than get stretched into a full series simply because the franchise has an audience. For now, the concept is charming, the characters are recognisable and the unanswered production details are the story to watch next.
