Aniplex has finally put its bookshop mystery in motion. During the Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival Online 2026, the studio published the first full promotional video for the television anime of En Mikami's Biblia Koshodō no Jiken Techō, better known in English as Antiquarian Bookshop Biblia's Case Files, and confirmed the series will begin airing in April 2027.

Four more cast members were named alongside the video. Reo Osanai plays Ayaka Shinokawa, Wataru Takagi takes the role of Shida, Yōhei Azakami voices Kikuya Kasai and Saeko Kamijō plays Nao Kosuga.

A quiet mystery with a print pedigree

The production has also filled out its staff. Kento Matsui is assistant director, Manami Fukuyo handles prop design, Masatoshi Kai is art director and Yoshinori Shiozawa is responsible for art setting. Kazuko Nakashima is colour key artist, Teruyuki Kawase is director of photography and Tomoyuki Shiokawa supervises cinematography at T2 Studio. Tatsuhiro Itō is CG director, Rie Matsubara edits, Tomohiko Yaginuma is sound director and Shōta Yaso handles sound effects.

The novels follow Shioriko Shinokawa, a painfully shy second-hand bookseller who untangles the small mysteries that walk through the door of her family's shop, usually with help from her mother's former assistant, Daisuke Goura. Kadokawa publishes the series in Japan, and the anime site has now posted character visuals for both leads.

This is not the first adaptation. A live-action television series based on the books ran in 2013, which makes the 2027 anime the second attempt to put Shioriko's shop on screen.

Our opinion

Bookshop mysteries live or die on atmosphere, and the promotional video leans into it hard: dust, lamplight and shelves shot as though they were crime scenes. That is the right instinct for a story where the drama is archival rather than action-driven, though it sets a high bar for a weekly series. April 2027 drops the show into a crowded spring season, and a slow, talky mystery needs a confident hand to hold an audience between reveals. Naming a cinematography supervisor this early is an encouraging signal that the look matters as much as the plotting, but it will be the scripts that decide whether Biblia feels like a genuine mystery or a very pretty archive.
