Black Night Parade has ended its run in Shueisha’s Ultra Jump, with creator Hikaru Nakamura confirming that a side story and a major announcement are planned for the magazine’s next issue on December 18, according to Anime News Network and Nakamura’s official X account.12

What happened to Black Night Parade

The final chapter of Nakamura’s Black Night Parade appeared in the November issue of Ultra Jump. The manga follows Miharu Hino, a young man pulled into a bizarre company of black-suited Santas after being told he is one of the “bad kids”. Shueisha’s official series page describes the story as a darkly comic workplace adventure built around that unusual Christmas premise.3

Nakamura announced that the manga’s ending will be followed by a side story and a major announcement in the next issue of Ultra Jump. The announcement is deliberately vague: neither the official post nor the available reporting confirms whether it concerns an adaptation, a new project, a continuation or another form of Black Night Parade news.12

The timing is clear, however. The next Ultra Jump issue is scheduled to carry the announcement on December 18, giving readers a defined point at which the mystery should be resolved. The manga’s 12th and final collected volume is also scheduled for publication on December 17, according to the reported series information.1

Where the series goes next

The ending closes a manga that began in 2016 and moved to Ultra Jump in 2019. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes Black Night Parade in English in digital and print formats, extending the series’ reach beyond Japan.1 The work has already crossed into live action, with a film adaptation released in Japan in 2022, but the new announcement has not been linked to a specific adaptation by an official source.1

That distinction matters. A “major announcement” is a news hook, not confirmation of a new anime, film or game. Until Nakamura, Shueisha or the magazine provides more detail, readers should treat the possibilities as open rather than assuming a particular project is on the way.

For now, the confirmed developments are the manga’s final chapter, the planned side story and the December 18 announcement. The December 17 final volume should also give readers a collected edition of the story before the next issue reveals what Shueisha has planned.13

Our opinion

Ending a long-running manga while promising a side story is a neat way to close one chapter without pretending the world has nothing left to say. The December 18 announcement is intriguing precisely because it has not been over-explained: guessing “anime” or “sequel” now would turn a carefully held tease into a manufactured certainty. Shueisha and Nakamura have given readers a date, a final volume and one extra story to look forward to. That is enough for the moment; the interesting part is waiting to see whether the major announcement earns the suspense.12
