Twisted Sisters live-action series reveals new cast for January 2027

NHK has announced four cast members for its live-action adaptation of Kazumi Yamashita’s manga Twisted Sisters (ツイステッド・シスターズ), which is scheduled to premiere on BS and BSP4K in January 2027.¹

The newly announced cast includes Yumia Fujisaki as Tiara Ioroi, Hikari Ishida as Junko Ioroi, Miori Takimoto as Rikako Ioroi and Hisako Manda as Ryōko Ioroi. NHK’s cast image shows the four performers together in costume for the drama.¹

What we know

The story follows manga artist Rikako, who reunites with her estranged sisters after their father’s will requires the five siblings to live together in a mansion. Rikako also discovers a secret sister she has never met. Yamashita launched the manga in Kodansha’s Morning magazine in 2021, and the series has reached nine collected volumes in Japan.¹²

Masao Iketani and Tomomi Maruyama will write the screenplay, while Takashi Ninomiya will direct. The announcement adds to the adaptation’s previously reported cast, with Takimoto already attached to play Rikako.¹²

The January 2027 debut places Twisted Sisters among NHK’s upcoming premium dramas, but the broadcaster has not yet announced a specific premiere date or wider international distribution details. Further information about the broadcast schedule and availability outside Japan is still to come.

Our opinion

This is a promisingly distinctive premise for a live-action manga adaptation: a family drama built around an inheritance ultimatum, a crowded mansion and a hidden sibling gives the series an immediate engine for secrets and conflict. The newly revealed cast also suggests NHK is leaning into the story’s heightened, character-driven tone rather than treating it as a conventional domestic drama. The real test will be whether the adaptation can make five complicated sisters feel like people, not simply plot devices, when it arrives in January.
