The Blue Road live-action series releases Netflix teaser
Netflix’s live-action adaptation of The Blue Road has released its first official teaser ahead of the cross-border crime series’ November premiere.
Netflix has released the official teaser for The Blue Road, a live-action series based on the Korean-Japanese manhwa Purungil – Ao no Michi (푸른길 – 青の道). The series follows two detectives investigating linked murders across South Korea and Japan, with a new teaser setting up the cross-border crime story.12
The teaser introduces Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency detective Seok Kim and Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department detective Inose as they are pulled into the same investigation. Messages left at crime scenes in both languages suggest that the killings are connected, while the detectives’ different approaches create immediate friction.1
Netflix’s official teaser presents the series as a tense partnership rather than a conventional police procedural. Its central hook is the collision between two investigators, two cities and a case that appears designed to exploit the political and cultural distance between them. The source material, a 2002 collaborative comic written by Keishi Edogawa and drawn by Kaya Kwon, used the same cross-border murder premise.1
Joon-hee Han, who previously directed D.P. and Coin Locker Girl, is directing the adaptation. Eita Nagayama leads the cast alongside Seok-gu Son, with both detectives placed at the centre of the investigation.1 The announcement also confirms that the series will premiere on Netflix on November 20 at 1 a.m. Pacific time.1
Netflix’s official YouTube teaser is embedded below. The thumbnail shows the two detectives in profile and is being used as the hero because it is first-party promotional artwork from the series’ own distributor.
Our opinion
The teaser’s best decision is to make the partnership feel uneasy before it makes it heroic. That gives The Blue Road a stronger identity than a standard serial-killer thriller: the case is international, but the drama is rooted in whether two detectives can trust each other while working across institutional and cultural boundaries. Han’s previous work suggests Netflix is aiming for a grounded crime series with more weight than a glossy trailer alone might imply.
The Blue Road premieres on Netflix on November 20, 2026.1
