Netflix has confirmed that Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 will return in January 2027, bringing three new voice actors into the animated series’ expanding cast. Jonathan Pryce will play Old Violet, Joel Kim Booster will voice Priest Ando, and Sherry Cola will play Kuma.1

The new season picks up after Mizu, voiced by Maya Erskine, sails towards London in search of the two remaining men who might be her father. Netflix says her revenge story will continue overseas, where she will face new allies, old enemies and the cultural shock of leaving Edo-period Japan behind.1

Maya Erskine is returning as Mizu, with Brenda Song as Akemi, Darren Barnet as Taigen and Masi Oka as Ringo. Akemi and Taigen will be dealing with Edo Castle under a dangerous new shogun, while Ringo searches for a new purpose after the events of the first season.1

Pryce’s Old Violet is described as part of the new ensemble, while Booster joins as Priest Ando and Cola as Kuma. The announcement gives no episode count, exact premiere day or regional release time, so January 2027 is the firmest date Netflix has confirmed for now.1

The casting update also clarifies that Season 2 is not being treated as a reset. The returning characters remain central to the story, while Mizu’s move to London creates a new setting for the series’ swordplay, political tension and revenge plot. That should give the show room to broaden its world without abandoning the personal thread that drove its first chapter.

Creators and writers Amber Noizumi and Michael Green remain attached, alongside supervising director and producer Jane Wu. Blue Spirit continues as the animation studio behind the series. Netflix has also said that Blue Eye Samurai will reach its conclusion in 2028, meaning the second season is part of a defined endgame rather than an open-ended renewal.1

Our opinion

This is a substantial casting update rather than a vague renewal notice. Pryce, Booster and Cola give Netflix three recognisable new voices to attach to Mizu’s London journey, while the returning cast keeps the announcement anchored to the characters viewers already know. The lack of an exact January date is worth flagging, but the confirmed month and the promise of a conclusion in 2028 make this a useful picture of where the series is heading.

For now, the practical takeaway is simple: Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 is scheduled for January 2027, with Mizu’s story moving from Japan to London and three new cast members joining the fight. Netflix has not announced the precise launch day yet.
