The official site for From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman has confirmed a third season, with new artwork of Beril in his home village and a congratulatory video from his voice actor.
A third season of From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman is on the way. The anime's official site announced the decision on 24 September, while the second season is still being broadcast, and marked it with a new illustration of Beril walking through his home village of Viden.
What the announcement covers
The site published the production decision alongside the new artwork and a congratulatory comment video from Hirakawa Hiroaki, the voice of Beril Gardenant, the retired adventurer at the centre of the story. No broadcast window, staff list or cast additions for the third season were included in the announcement.
The timing is deliberate. Studios usually confirm a continuation while the current run is still airing, because that is when the audience is largest and the production committee has the clearest view of disc sales, streaming numbers and merchandising. The second season reached its twelfth episode as the announcement went out, and the site has been publishing staff episode commentaries through the run.

From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman began as a novel series by Sagazaki Shigeru with illustrations by Nabeshima Tetsuhiro, published by Square Enix, and follows Beril Gardenant as he is dragged out of a quiet country retirement and into teaching the next generation of swordsmen. Our opinion
Continuation announcements have become the least surprising genre of anime news, and this one is squarely in that mould: no date, no staff, no cast, just a decision and a piece of art. It is still the right kind of signal, because a third season for a series that trades on a middle-aged man quietly being extremely good at his old job tells you what the audience for that premise looks like.
The more interesting question is what the show does with the time. The second season has been working through the material that sets up Beril's students as characters in their own right, and a third season commissioned this early suggests the committee expects the adaptation to keep pace rather than trail the novels. Readers of the source material will already know what comes next; everyone else has a season to catch up.
