Dan-Katsu anime reveals more cast and theme songs

The January 2027 anime adds four cast members and confirms MindaRyn and LINKL PLANET as its theme performers.

The upcoming Dan-Katsu anime has revealed four more cast members, its opening and ending theme artists, and a new teaser promotional video ahead of its January 2027 premiere.1

Ayaka Nanase will play Hanna, Kotone Izumi will voice Sierra, Hikaru Iida will play Lana and Chihaya Asakura will portray Ester, Lana's guardian knight. MindaRyn performs the opening song “Play the Play”, while LINKL PLANET performs the ending song “My Life Story”.

The series adapts Kaede Nishikigi's light novel Game Sekai Tensei <Dan-Katsu> -Gamer wa [Dungeon Shūkatsu no Susume] o <Hajime kara> Play Suru- — usually shortened to Dan-Katsu. Its central joke is also its central hook: gamer Zephyrus has spent more than 8,000 hours playing the dungeon-crawl game Dungeon Shūkatsu no Susume, only to lose his save data and die from the shock. He then wakes up inside the game's world, where he starts again as a hero.1

The new cast expands the story around Zephyrus as he begins exploring a world he once knew only through a screen. Yūto Uemura voices the protagonist, with Nagisa Miyazaki directing at STUDIO MASSKET and Yūji Kobayashi handling series scripts.1

The official anime site previously described the visual premise as a clash between the real-world school-uniform look of Zephyrus and his pixel-art hero form, a fitting image for a show about a player crossing into his favourite game.2 The anime is scheduled to begin broadcasting in Japan in January 2027, although the announcement does not yet provide an international streaming partner or a more precise date.1

Our opinion

This is a useful update because it gives Dan-Katsu more than a vague “coming soon” presence. The cast additions establish the supporting group around Zephyrus, while the two named theme songs and teaser make the January window feel more concrete. The premise still has to prove it can do more than replay familiar game-world reincarnation beats, but the pixel-art-versus-anime presentation gives the adaptation a clear visual identity to build on.

For now, the sensible expectation is a January 2027 fantasy adventure with a deliberately game-like frame — not a confirmed simulcast. More details should arrive through the official site and the anime's official social account before broadcast.12
