Devils' Crest casts four classmates for its 6 November debut

Yuma Ashihara's class is filling up. The Devils' Crest anime has cast four of his classmates at Yukihana Elementary School, revealing new character visuals for each of them alongside the voice actors taking the roles — among them Yūsuke Kobayashi, Maaya Uchida, Rie Murakawa and Sora Amamiya. The series premieres worldwide on Prime Video on Friday 6 November 2026.

Who has *Devils' Crest* cast as Yuma's classmates?

Four new names, all sixth-graders in the same class as the protagonist. Teruki Sugamo, the class committee member who also captains the football club, is played by Yūsuke Kobayashi. Aria Misono, described by the production as sitting near the top of the class hierarchy and every bit as glamorous as that sounds, is Maaya Uchida. Kai Kisanuki, who looks timid until you notice how sharply he is watching everyone, is Rie Murakawa. Sumika Watamaki, the idol-like figure with enormous pull among the boys in her year, is Sora Amamiya. The production has published visuals for all four in the school's winter uniform, each carrying one of their signature lines.

They join a cast that was already largely set. Haruka Shiraishi plays Yuma Ashihara, Konomi Inagaki plays his twin sister Sawa, Yuya Hirose plays the boisterous Kenji Kondo and Satomi Amano plays Minagi Sano — the four who party together in the first PV.

When does *Devils' Crest* come out, and where can I watch it?

Friday 6 November 2026, worldwide and exclusively on Prime Video. That is a streaming-first launch rather than the usual Japanese television window followed by a simulcast: the official site frames the date as a world exclusive for the service, and no Japanese broadcast has been announced alongside it. Ado performs the opening theme, "Shinka", written for the series by the Vocaloid producer Yurii Kanon.

Reki Kawahara, the author of Sword Art Online and Accel World, has described the story as the third step in a progression he has been building for years: virtual reality in Sword Art Online, augmented reality in Sword Art Online the Movie -Ordinal Scale-, and now mixed reality here. The premise is that Actual Magic, the world's first full-dive VRMMO-RPG, has merged with the real world. A sixth-grader called Yuma Ashihara sits down with his classmates for what should be an ordinary test play and ends up somewhere dark and nowhere near the others, which is where the promised death game begins. Per the official character profile, Yuma is student number 23, stands 152 cm and plays as a Monster Tamer.

Production I.G is on animation, with Shinji Ushiro as chief director and Kenichiro Komaya directing. Eiji Umehara is handling series composition, and Yukiko Horiguchi — who also illustrates Kawahara's novels — is the character designer, with Shuji Kawakami and Kazuchika Kise as chief animation directors. The wider team includes art director Katsumi Takao, CG director Motohito Nasu and sound director Jin Aketagawa, with music from Yuki Hayashi and Naoyuki Chikatani and CG production by REIRS.

Our opinion

The casting is the least interesting part of this announcement; the salary structure behind it is the story. Putting Uchida and Amamiya — two of the busiest voices in the industry — into supporting roles in a children's ensemble tells you the production's budget is aimed at the adult audience that grew up on Kawahara rather than at the characters' own age group, and Production I.G is the right studio for that pitch: it has spent decades making animated work where the machinery of a system is as much of a character as anyone in it, which is exactly what an MR death game needs to avoid looking like a cartoon about a video game. The risk is structural rather than visual. Devils' Crest is asking us to invest in eleven-year-olds dying in a fused world, and it is doing so on a service where the show arrives in one worldwide drop on a Friday night — no weekly water-cooler rhythm, no simulcast speculation, and a first episode that has to land without the slow-burn audience-building a broadcast slot provides. Kawahara's stories have always been strongest when the game's rules are the villain, and a release strategy this blunt is a test of whether the same trick works when nobody has to wait a week to talk about it.
