Evangelion Rei and Asuka get RADIO EVA street-style puzzles
New 306-piece RADIO EVA Street Style puzzles put Evangelion's Rei and Asuka in streetwear, with each square design priced at ¥3,080.
Evangelion (エヴァンゲリオン) characters Rei (綾波レイ) and Asuka (式波・アスカ・ラングレー) are the subjects of two new RADIO EVA Street Style jigsaw puzzles. The 306-piece square puzzles use newly drawn artwork by Hideki Matsubara and are available through official retailers for ¥3,080 each, including tax.12
A street-fashion take on Rei and Asuka
The puzzles turn the two pilots into RADIO EVA fashion figures rather than showing them in their familiar plugsuits. The official Evangelion Store artwork presents Asuka in a blue streetwear outfit, while the accompanying product description says the range keeps the characters’ recognisable charm and adds RADIO EVA’s urban styling.1
The project comes from RADIO EVA, the official fashion project associated with Evangelion, with the illustration credited to animator and character designer Hideki Matsubara. Matsubara worked on Neon Genesis Evangelion and later projects in the franchise, making the new designs a direct extension of the series’ visual history rather than an unrelated character print.1
Anime! Anime! reports that both the Rei and Asuka versions are square puzzles measuring 25 by 25 centimetres when complete. Each contains 306 pieces, making them compact enough to display as small pieces of character art once assembled.2
Pricing and availability
The two RADIO EVA Street Style puzzles are priced at ¥3,080 each, including tax. The official Evangelion Store lists the Asuka version for sale and links the Rei version as a related product, while Yanoman is identified as the manufacturer.1
The source report says the puzzles are available through hobby shops, electronics retailers and Yanoman’s official online shop. That gives collectors several routes to the designs, although stock and delivery terms will vary by retailer.2
The wider Evangelion franchise is also in a commemorative period: the series began in 1995, and the franchise’s 30th-anniversary events have kept new merchandise and future-project news in view. This puzzle release is a small product announcement, but it fits the long-running pattern of treating Rei and Asuka as fashion and lifestyle icons as well as anime characters.2
What collectors are getting
The main appeal is the artwork. These are not large-format puzzles designed to dominate a room; their 25-centimetre square finish makes them closer to compact display pieces. RADIO EVA’s streetwear styling gives each version a distinct visual identity, so collectors can choose between Rei and Asuka or display both together.12
Our opinion
This is a tidy piece of Evangelion merchandise rather than a major franchise development, but the format makes sense. A square puzzle gives Matsubara’s new RADIO EVA illustrations room to function as wall-ready character art, and the matching Rei and Asuka editions make the release feel considered rather than like a single licensed image being reused everywhere. The ¥3,080 price also keeps it within the normal range for a small character collectible, assuming the artwork is the reason you want it rather than the puzzle challenge itself.
