TBS announces Anime no Ba event with Evangelion overnight screening
TBS will stage its new Anime no Ba event in Tokyo on 7 November, opening with an overnight Evangelion screening and fan domino project.
TBS has announced Anime no Ba, a new event taking place in Tokyo on 7 November, with an overnight Evangelion screening and domino project forming the centrepiece of its opening programme. The wider event will also include stage appearances, public recordings, exhibitions and a DigiCon6 ASIA awards ceremony. 12
An Evangelion night opens the event
The event begins with an overnight All Night Domino Project on 6 and 7 November at the TBS Akasaka BLITZ Studio. TBS says 100 Evangelion fans will take part in a domino challenge built around the series, whose Japanese title is Shinseiki Evangerion (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン). The project is presented as the pre-event leading into Anime no Ba. 1
The official graphic describes the overnight programme as running from the evening of 6 November into the morning of 7 November. Oricon reports that the event will show all 26 episodes of the original series before the fan domino project, although TBS’s event page focuses on the participation format and application details. 12
What else is planned
The main event at Akasaka Sacas includes a special music-anime programme, a talk event for the film Takopi’s Original Sin: Arigatou, Mata Ashita (タコピーの原罪 -ありがとう、また明日-), a stage show for the television anime Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You (スーパーの裏でヤニ吸うふたり), and a public recording for a new anime programme. 1
TBS is also staging the 28th DigiCon6 ASIA awards ceremony for invited attendees. The broadcaster describes Anime no Ba as a new autumn event intended to bring creators, performers and anime audiences together in Akasaka, with more details still to come. Admission to the public-facing areas is free, although individual stages and priority viewing areas have their own applications. 1
Our opinion
The strongest hook is the event’s mix of a recognisable franchise celebration and genuinely unusual participation. A 100-person domino project gives the opening night a clear identity, while the broader programme makes Anime no Ba more than a single screening. The useful caveat is that several headline activities need applications, so visitors should check TBS’s official updates before travelling.
