Sunrise has released the main trailer for Future GPX Cyber Formula ASURADA, confirming a 19 February 2027 theatrical double bill in Japan. The programme pairs the new short anime with a high-definition movie edition of Future GPX Cyber Formula: Early Days Renewal.12

The trailer was published on Sunrise's official YouTube channel as the project reaches four months before its Japanese opening. The new short is titled ASURADA and runs for approximately six minutes, while the accompanying film reworks the 1996 compilation Early Days Renewal for theatrical presentation.123

What the double bill includes

Mitsuo Fukuda is directing and writing ASURADA. Hirokazu Hisayuki is handling character designs, with Shoji Kawamori designing the cyber machines. Sunrise is producing the short and Bandai Namco Filmworks is handling production and distribution.13

The announced cast includes Junichi Kanemaru as Hayato Kazami, Kotono Mitsuishi as Asuka Kazami, Toshihiko Seki as Bleed Kaga, Yuri Amano as Kyoko Aoi and Shuichi Ikeda as Kyoshiro Nagumo.1

The new short follows the Future GPX Cyber Formula franchise's long-running racing story and is positioned as a direct sequel to Future GPX Cyber Formula SIN. The double bill also arrives as part of the franchise's 35th-anniversary celebrations, giving the screening both a new-production hook and a substantial piece of archive material for returning fans.13

Advance tickets have been available in Japan since 26 September for 1,900 yen. The original television series is also listed as streaming on four services in Japan, as well as services in Taiwan and South Korea, although availability varies by territory.1

Our opinion

A short new chapter backed by a remastered feature is a smart anniversary format: it gives Cyber Formula newcomers a sizeable theatrical entry point while offering established fans a reason to revisit the franchise on a big screen. The trailer's clear emphasis on both ASURADA and Early Days Renewal makes this feel like a proper celebration rather than a token anniversary logo, although international release details remain unconfirmed.123
