Gundam SEED Ichiban Kuji line adds Lunamaria figure for 2027
A new Ichiban Kuji line tied to Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO launches in Japan on 16 January 2027, led by a Lunamaria Hawke figure.
The Gundam SEED franchise is getting a new Ichiban Kuji figure line timed to the next film, with Lunamaria Hawke taking one of the headline slots.
Bandai Spirits’ official Ichiban Kuji listing confirms Ichiban Kuji Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM & FREEDOM ZERO will launch in Japan on 16 January 2027, priced at ¥800 per draw. The listing names convenience stores and supermarkets including 7-Eleven, Ito-Yokado and Youme Town as planned retailers, although it notes that availability can vary by shop and the line will end when stock runs out.1
The figures in the line
The first disclosed prizes include an A-prize Shinn Asuka MASTERLISE figure, a B-prize Lunamaria Hawke MASTERLISE figure and a C-prize Leonard Barwey MASTERLISE figure. The E-prize is a set of mobile-suit head magnets, while the Last One prize is a Lacus Clyne MASTERLISE figure. Bandai’s listing says the line will eventually include further prizes, but leaves several slots marked for later announcements.1
The Lunamaria figure is the immediate eye-catcher. It depicts her in a red-and-white pilot outfit, holding a red helmet, and is listed at approximately 23cm tall. The official product page also shows the Shinn, Leonard and Lacus figures, giving collectors a clearer idea of the range before the remaining prizes are revealed.1
Why it is launching now
The lottery is tied to Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO (機動戦士ガンダムSEED FREEDOM ZERO), a new film scheduled for release on 15 January 2027. The film is described as a prequel to Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, the 2024 feature that continued the long-running Gundam SEED story. Oricon reports that the new lottery was announced as part of the build-up to the film and that the first prize details have now been released.2
That timing gives the collection a neat one-two punch: the film arrives on 15 January, followed by the lottery on 16 January. It also explains why the range mixes established characters such as Shinn, Lunamaria and Lacus with Leonard Barwey, a character connected to the new film’s story.
For collectors outside Japan, the early announcement is useful but not a promise of an international release. Bandai Spirits’ official page currently lists Japanese retailers rather than a global distribution plan, so overseas fans should treat any import or resale listings as separate from the Japanese launch.1
Our opinion
This is a stronger Ichiban Kuji reveal than a bare tie-in announcement because the first wave already has a recognisable centrepiece. Lunamaria’s figure gives the line a character-led hook, while Shinn and Lacus make the collection feel connected to the wider SEED cast rather than built solely around the new film. The gaps in the prize list are deliberate, though, and the later reveals could determine whether this becomes a must-have set or simply another tie-in lottery to watch from a distance.
For now, the important dates are clear: Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO is due on 15 January 2027, and the Ichiban Kuji line follows on 16 January at ¥800 per draw. More prizes and any wider availability will need to wait for Bandai Spirits’ next update.
