Lycoris Recoil manga ends after two more chapters
Comic Flapper’s adaptation of the A-1 Pictures anime closes with two chapters, ending a run that began in September 2022.
The Lycoris Recoil manga is coming to an end. Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Flapper confirmed in its October issue that the adaptation has two chapters left to run.
What's actually going on
The announcement appeared in the magazine’s October issue, published on 4 September. Writer Spider Lily and artist Yasunori Bizen launched the adaptation in Monthly Comic Flapper in September 2022, and Kadokawa has compiled it into nine volumes as of August 2026. The final two chapters close that run.
The manga adapts the 2022 A-1 Pictures original anime, which was directed by Shingo Adachi and followed by a set of sequel ONA shorts titled Lycoris Recoil: Friends are thieves of time. The anime’s main voice cast — Chika Anzai as Chisato Nishikigi, Shion Wakayama as Takina Inoue, Ami Koshimizu as Mizuki Nakahara, Kosuke Sakaki as Mika and Misaki Kuno as Kurumi — carried the series through that run.
The franchise has grown well beyond both versions. Monthly Comic Flapper has released three anthology books alongside the manga, and Asaura and Imigimuru adapted the anime into a light novel, Lycoris Recoil Ordinary Days, which Kadokawa’s Dengeki Bunko began publishing in September 2022. There is also a web novel, a stage play and the internet radio programme LycoReco Radio.
For English-speaking readers, Yen Press publishes the manga and light novel in North America, and Crunchyroll streams the anime. The magazine has not given a date for the final two chapters beyond confirming there are two.
Why you should care
It helps to know which version you are following. Lycoris Recoil started as an anime original, so the manga is a retelling rather than the source material: its ending is a stopping point for the comics, not for the story. Nothing has been announced about the anime’s future either way.
That matters for anyone deciding whether to start. The manga is a complete, nine-volume adaptation with a defined finish, which makes it an unusually tidy thing to collect compared with the many series that simply stop. Readers who want the version the franchise was built around should still go to the anime first.
Our opinion
A two-chapter warning is the good kind of ending notice. It gives the creative team room to land the story deliberately rather than leaving readers with an abrupt stop, and it gives anyone mid-collection a clear final volume to aim at.
The slightly deflating part is what it says about the broader franchise. Lycoris Recoil has been one of the more quietly durable series of the past few years, with the ONAs and radio work keeping it alive between larger projects, and a manga ending leaves the anime as the only active storytelling line. Worth revisiting the original run — and hoping the announced sequel work finds its way to screens.
