Madoka Magica film reveals a spoiler-heavy new trailer
Aniplex has revealed a new trailer and visual for Walpurgisnacht: Rising, the sequel to Rebellion that opened at No. 1 in Japan.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Walpurgisnacht: Rising has unveiled another glimpse into its decidedly unsafe magical-girl nightmare. Aniplex revealed a new trailer during its One Focus livestream, alongside a new visual from character designer Ume Aoki.
The trailer is explicitly marked as containing spoilers, so anyone trying to preserve the film’s secrets should look away now — preferably before Homura starts rearranging reality again.
What's actually going on
According to Anime News Network’s report on the livestream, the film is the official sequel to Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 3: Rebellion. The new trailer is available through the official Aniplex video link, while the newly revealed visual comes from Aoki.
The update follows the film’s Japanese opening on 28 August. It ranked No. 1 in its opening weekend, selling 535,000 tickets and earning ¥939,647,100 — about US$5.95 million — during its first three days, according to the report.
Yukihiro Miyamoto directed the film, returning from the wider Madoka Magica anime universe. The staff also includes chief director Akiyuki Simbo, scriptwriter Gen Urobuchi of Nitroplus, original character designer Ume Aoki, animation character designer Junichirō Taniguchi, composer Yuki Kajiura, alternate-space designers Gekidan Inu Curry and animation studio SHAFT.
The cast includes Shion Wakayama as the new magical girl Shichōka and Tomoyo Kurosawa as Selma Therese. FictionJunction performs the theme song, “Kanata.” The film also features Maaya Sakamoto as the unnamed upperclassman known as Wasu, a character who resembles Homura but whose true identity remains deliberately murky.
A sequel with teeth
The important distinction here is that this is not a routine recap or a promotional key visual quietly floating into the internet. Walpurgisnacht: Rising is expanding the story after Rebellion, and the spoiler warning suggests the new footage is aimed squarely at viewers already willing to have the remaining mysteries kicked down the stairs.
Our opinion
A new Madoka Magica trailer carrying an actual spoiler warning is basically the franchise waving a red flag and asking fans whether they enjoy emotional stability. The strong opening, returning creative team and increasingly strange cast additions make this look like a proper continuation rather than a nostalgia lap. Watch the trailer only if you are caught up — but if you are, this is exactly the sort of ominous nonsense the series has earned the right to deliver.
