Manga Mavericks Books licenses Gago Hunters manga
Manga Mavericks Books will release Sho Yonoko's supernatural comedy manga physically and digitally in July 2027.
Manga Mavericks Books has licensed Gago Hunters: Greetings from Amatsumizu City's Gago Suppression Squad, a supernatural comedy manga by Sho Yonoko, for physical and digital publication in July 2027. The announcement came during the publisher's online event and was reported from a Manga Mavericks Books press release. 1
The series is set in Amatsumizu City, where mysterious creatures known as Gago outnumber the human residents. With the mayor unwilling to spend much money on a specialist team, four ordinary people are pressed into service as the town's Gago Hunters: hair stylist Umeko, cashier Mii, high-school student Hiromi and Umeko's apprentice Yuuri. 1
What is Gago Hunters?
The premise turns a familiar supernatural-threat setup into a reluctant workplace comedy. The four women are not presented as an established elite squad; they are civilians given an impossible job and forced to discover whether they can handle it. Manga Mavericks Books describes each member as having something unusual about her, suggesting that the series' mystery will sit alongside its monster-of-the-week hook. 1
Yonoko's manga debuted on HERO'S Web in September 2023, and its sixth compiled volume shipped in Japan on July 6, 2026. The English-language announcement confirms both physical and digital editions for July 2027, but it does not specify every territory, retailer or final format for those editions. 1
Manga Mavericks Books is the publishing division of Manga Mavericks, a manga website and podcast that began licensing and distributing Japanese works from independent creators in 2025. The company has also announced a February 2027 release of Taiyo Matsumoto's Brothers of Japan, alongside a variant cover for its online store. 12
Our opinion
Gago Hunters has a cleaner selling point than many licensing announcements: four reluctant civilians, a town overrun by strange creatures and a publisher willing to support both print and digital readers. That is enough to make the July 2027 release worth watching without pretending the English edition has a confirmed launch day, price or storefronts yet. The most interesting question is whether Yonoko uses the squad's forced recruitment mainly for jokes or gradually turns it into a character-driven supernatural adventure. Manga Mavericks Books has supplied the hook; the eventual preview pages will show how much depth sits behind it.
The July 2027 window is confirmed, while detailed edition information remains to come from the publisher. 12
