Nintendo launches Hello! Pikmin short-film series

Nintendo has announced Hello! Pikmin, a series of short films that begins with an official first instalment called #01 Frog.

Nintendo has announced Hello! Pikmin, a new series of short films, through its Pikmin Day Direct presentation. The first instalment, Hello! Pikmin – #01 Frog, is available from Nintendo’s official short-movies page, while the company says more shorts are to come.1

The announcement is deliberately small in scale. Nintendo has not described Hello! Pikmin as a television anime or a cinema feature, and it has not supplied a fixed release schedule, cast list or studio credit for the wider series. The clearest reading is a run of short-form animated videos built around Pikmin’s familiar miniature world.1

The first short’s official artwork places a red Pikmin beside a large frog and a baseball, matching Nintendo’s playful approach to the series. That gives the project an immediate visual hook without suggesting a larger adaptation than Nintendo has actually confirmed. The short-movies page is the authoritative place to watch the first episode and to check for future additions.1

Anime News Network has also reported the announcement as a Pikmin short-film series, adding independent confirmation while preserving the distinction between short films and a full-length anime production.2

Our opinion

This is exactly the sort of low-pressure experiment that suits Pikmin. Short films can show off the series’ physical comedy and odd little ecosystem without forcing Nintendo to define a long-running plot or a release calendar. The important detail is that Nintendo has confirmed a series, not promised a conventional anime, so expectations should stay focused on charming standalone shorts rather than a new television franchise.
