Puella Magi Sorana Magica opens a new Madoka Magica chapter

Aniplex has launched Puella Magi Sorana Magica, a five-chapter original series inside Magia Exedra that sends its magical girls across the stars in the year 2225.

Aniplex has begun streaming Puella Magi Sorana Magica, a brand-new original series inside the Madoka Magica mobile game Magia Exedra, with the first chapter live from 4 October 2026.

A magical girl story that leaves Earth behind

The series opens in the year 2225, when humankind has spread out into the universe and the wishes of magical girls carry them across the stars. It runs for five chapters and is fully voiced, and Aniplex bills it as the first Madoka Magica story built at a hard science-fiction scale.

Chapter one, titled Sea, puts Sorana Nagiboshi in a half-submerged city. A quiet resident of a forgotten corner of Earth, she is contacted by her favourite streamer, Lily, and agrees to guide her through the flooded streets — which Aniplex says is the opening move in a story that will shake the fate of humanity.

The names behind it

The scenario is by GenGen Kusano, author of the Hayakawa Bunko JA novel Last and First Idol, with character concepts from Kokamumo, whose Null Meta runs in Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara MAX. The promotional animation is produced by Soigne, the studio behind mono and Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk.

The theme song, Navy Blue, is performed by Sorana Nagiboshi, voiced by Asaki Yuikawa, and written and arranged by Yuki Tsujimura with Ken Ito. It is out now on streaming and download services.

What launch week pays out

A bingo mission running from 4 October awards up to six copies of the new five-star memory for Sorana along with a total of 3,000 Magica Stones. A 1.5th anniversary campaign is also live until 31 October, offering a free daily ten-pull with a bonus gauge that can add up to 150 pulls, a guaranteed five-star Magica Key, and a free first ten-pull on a banner for the new limited five-star memory of Homura Akemi.

Our opinion

Madoka Magica has spent a decade treating its spin-offs as laboratories, and this is the strangest test yet: a five-part, fully voiced science-fiction serial that arrives as a content update inside a gacha game rather than as a broadcast season. The commercial reasoning is not hard to find, because serialised story is exactly the hook a live game needs to keep players logging in, and Aniplex already knows this audience will pay for Homura. The creative swing is more interesting than the business one. Handing a Madoka story to a Hayakawa science-fiction author and letting it run to the year 2225 is a bigger bet than the usual tie-in, and the setting gives it room the television series never had. What it cannot buy is permanence. A story that lives inside a game lives only as long as its servers, and this franchise has already taught its fans precisely how quickly a magical girl's world can be taken away.
