The final chapter of the Rascal Does Not Dream anime film series is getting one last push before its Japanese cinema debut. Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend has released its second main trailer, a new key visual and its theme song, “Turn the World Upside Down”.
The official franchise portal confirms a Japanese theatrical premiere on 16 October 2026. The film is the concluding entry in the current Rascal Does Not Dream anime project, but no UK, US or wider international cinema, streaming or home-video release has been announced.
A new song for the final film
“Turn the World Upside Down” is written by Ameko Kodama, with composition and arrangement by Hidehiro Kawai of fox capture plan. The official portal has also announced an original soundtrack featuring new score material from fox capture plan.
CloverWorks remains the animation studio behind the franchise. The new trailer and visual continue the series’ familiar blend of seaside scenery, supernatural mystery and teenage awkwardness, although the production has not revealed every plot detail ahead of the theatrical release.
Japanese date confirmed, overseas plans unclear
The important bit for international viewers is the caveat: 16 October is a Japanese theatrical date, not a worldwide release. The official material currently says nothing about UK cinemas, a streaming partner or a home-video launch outside Japan.
That wait is frustrating but preferable to the usual release-date fog. A confirmed Japanese premiere gives fans something solid to track, while the lack of overseas information means nobody should treat the film as a confirmed autumn streaming release in Britain or North America.

A final trailer and a new theme song are a fitting way to build anticipation for the concluding film, especially for a franchise that has always understood that atmosphere matters as much as plot mechanics. The Japanese date is welcome news, but international fans should resist the temptation to pencil in a global streaming launch that nobody has announced. For now, Dear Friend looks like a promising final goodbye — just one arriving in Japan first and making the rest of us wait outside the cinema.
