The October anime has a new main promotional video, a fresh key visual and two more cast members, with the official site confirming its Japanese broadcast and streaming dates.
The television anime of Reborn as a Space Mercenary has unveiled its main promotional video, a new key visual and two additional cast members, alongside a confirmed broadcast and streaming schedule.
Two new faces and an opening theme
Kana Ueda joins as Shoko and Saori Ōnishi as Mei, appearing in the new trailer with the main cast: Makoto Furukawa as Hiro, Konomi Inagaki as Mimi, Anna Nagase as Elma and Haruka Shiraishi as Serena. The video also gives the opening theme its first airing — Unstoppable by rock band FLOW — while metal band ASTERISM performs the ending theme, My Way.
studio A-CAT is handling animation, with Norihiko Nagahama directing, Takamitsu Kōno on series composition and Masami Sueoka designing the characters. Jin Aketagawa is the sound director and Kenta Higashiohji composes the music.
When it airs
The series begins on 4 October on TOKYO MX at 21:30 JST, with BS11 following the same evening at 23:00. Yomiuri TV, Chukyo TV, WOWOW and AT-X pick it up across the following week. d Anime Store and ABEMA stream new episodes at the same time as the terrestrial broadcast, and other platforms follow on 9 October.
It adapts Ryūto’s light novel series, illustrated by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima, and Shinichi Matsui’s manga version. Seven Seas Entertainment holds the English licence for both.
Our opinion
Studio A-CAT is not the name most viewers look for in a seasonal lineup, and that is exactly why this one is worth watching. The studio has spent years on competent, unglamorous adaptations, and a space opera with a fleet of ship designs, a five-strong cast and a two-cour’s worth of world-building is a far harder test of that than a single-location comedy. The trailer suggests the mechanical work has been taken seriously, which is the part most isekai adaptations fumble. The question now is pacing: the light novels move fast, and a 12-episode run will have to decide early whether it wants the trading and mercenary economics or simply the fights. Get that balance right and this is a genuine sleeper.
