Sekiro: No Defeat adds a second wave of 26 cinemas
The Sekiro: No Defeat film has extended its Japanese run beyond the three-week limited engagement it opened with, adding 26 venues in five waves from 2 October, according to the film's own account.

Sekiro: No Defeat has been given a second life in Japanese cinemas. The film's own account announced on 21 September that additional screenings begin on Friday 2 October, rolling out across the country in waves rather than opening everywhere at once.
Twenty-six venues, five Fridays
The announcement graphic lists 26 cinemas opening in five groups, on 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 October. Eleven of them start on the first date, including Forum Morioka in Iwate and Forum Higashine in Yamagata, and the list works its way out to places the original run did not reach: 109 Cinemas Saga, Miyazaki Cinema, and ufotable CINEMA in Tokushima at the end of the month. Much of the expansion sits in regional multiplexes rather than the city circuit, and the graphic carries a note that the information is current as of 21 September and that venues can change without notice.
The run that was meant to be three weeks
The film opened on 4 September as a three-week limited engagement, a schedule that would have ended on 24 September. It is a full 2D animated feature adapting FromSoftware's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and it uses Ryuichi Sakamoto's Blu as its theme. The second wave begins eight days after the first run was due to close, which turns a short engagement into a six-week presence in cinemas.
What has not been announced
There is no overseas expansion in the announcement, no ticket information for the new venues and no dates past 30 October. The post points readers to the film's venue information rather than a booking page, so anyone planning around a specific cinema still has to check that cinema's own listings.
Our opinion
The three-week limited run is one of the most useful marketing devices in Japanese film distribution, because it promises scarcity without promising failure. If a film lands badly, the short window is the excuse and nobody has to talk about the numbers. If it lands well, the same window produces the headline that the run is being extended because demand will not let it close. Sekiro: No Defeat has now had the second outcome. What is interesting is where the extension goes: eleven venues on the first Friday, then cinemas in Saga, Miyazaki, Tokushima, Yamagata and Iwate, which are not the rooms a distributor books when it is chasing the same audience twice. That pattern is what an expanded regional release looks like when the initial circuit is already spent. It is also the least glamorous kind of good news a film can get, because it means the people who wanted to see this have been driving further than they should have had to for the past three weeks.
