The Apothecary Diaries launches a new escape-room mystery

SCRAP’s new Japanese-language event puts fans in Maomao’s shoes to investigate a poisoned wedding and make an antidote.

The Apothecary Diaries (薬屋のひとりごと) is getting a new real-world mystery to solve, with SCRAP announcing an original-story escape-room event built around Maomao’s poison-hunting expertise. The event, The Apothecary Diaries: Escape from the Banquet Concealing Murder, opens at Tokyo Mystery Circus on 28 January 2027 before rolling out through Real Escape Game venues across Japan. 12

The scenario begins at a noble wedding. The bride suddenly collapses from poisoning, and Maomao swaps places with her to prevent the ceremony becoming a political crisis. Players take the role of apprentice pharmacists, investigating the guests, identifying the poison and working towards an antidote while Maomao, Jinshi and Gaoshun provide information during the case. 1

SCRAP says the event includes a completely original story and newly recorded voices. It is designed as a roughly two-hour experience, with a 60-minute time limit and teams of up to four people. The Tokyo Mystery Circus run is scheduled for 28 January to 11 April 2027, with tickets starting at ¥3,900 on weekdays and ¥4,200 on weekends and holidays. 1

Fan-club pre-sales begin on 14 November 2026, followed by general sales from 21 November. A premium ticket can add the Tea Fragrance Moment set, which includes an original coaster, a teacup and an additional mystery. 1

The official campaign site also confirms that newcomers are welcome, although SCRAP recommends the event for people aged 12 and over because of the puzzle difficulty. The experience is Japanese-language only, so international fans should treat it as a Japan trip rather than a translated attraction. 2

Our opinion

This is a much better fit for The Apothecary Diaries than a generic character café or photo exhibition. The premise turns Maomao’s defining skill — treating poison as a puzzle rather than a melodrama prop — into the thing players actually do. The original case also gives SCRAP room to make the event feel like its own mystery instead of asking fans to replay a scene they already know. The Japanese-only format limits its audience, but the hands-on investigation makes this one of the more convincing anime collaborations announced for 2027.
