Villion:Code launches in the West on 26 January 2027
Idea Factory International has dated Compile Heart's school RPG for a 26 January 2027 Western launch across Switch, PlayStation and PC.
Idea Factory International has announced that Villion:Code, Compile Heart's new school RPG, will launch in the West on 26 January 2027.1 The release covers Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam, giving the game a multi-platform launch across current and previous-generation systems.1
Release details
The Western release will include a Digital Deluxe Edition with a digital art book and soundtrack. Physical editions are planned for PlayStation 5 in North America and Europe, while Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 physical editions are planned for North America.1 The game's Steam listing also confirms the PC release and shows new gameplay scenes from the near-future action RPG.2
Villion:Code is set as humanity approaches extinction. The Advan Resilience Research Academy City is created to search for an answer, but an anomaly soon appears inside the isolated city. The anomaly produces creatures called GEM and cuts the city off from outside contact, leaving its students to confront the crisis while investigating what caused it.1
The game originally launched in Japan on 25 June for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The January date is therefore the Western release, rather than the game's first launch anywhere.1
Why it matters
The announcement gives Western players a firm date for a Compile Heart RPG that had previously been available only in Japan. The broad platform list also means the game is not being limited to one console family: Switch players, PlayStation owners and PC users will all have a route to the release.
Our opinion
A confirmed Western date is the useful news here. Villion:Code is still months away, but the combination of a clear launch day, physical-edition details and a Steam version gives prospective players something more concrete than a teaser. The game's neon combat and enclosed-city premise also make the newly released gameplay footage worth keeping on the radar, even if the January launch will be the real test.
