Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun: IruMafia Edition reveals main visual

The mafia-themed Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun spin-off premieres in Japan on January 4, 2027, with a 12-episode run.

Main visual for Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun: IruMafia Edition, showing Iruma and his mafia-themed classmates on a staircase

The anime Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun: IruMafia Edition has revealed its main visual ahead of its Japanese premiere on January 4, 2027. The show will air on NHK-G at 11pm JST and is planned as a 12-episode series, according to the official anime website and reporting attributed to Comic Natalie.12

This spin-off moves Iruma and his classmates into a mafia-themed alternate setting. The newly revealed artwork places Iruma at the centre of a sharply dressed group, trading the original series' school setting for a more theatrical underworld look. The visual also introduces the tone of the adaptation without pretending this is a continuation of the main story.

The details

Tatsunoko Production is animating the series. Keiichiro Kawaguchi is directing, Kazuyuki Fudeyasu is handling series composition and Kenji Fujisaki is responsible for character designs. Yayoi Sekimukai is composing the music, with Hozumi Gouda credited as sound director.1

The cast includes Ayumu Murase as Iruma, Mitsuki Saiga as Opera, Daisuke Ono as Kalego Naberius, Ryohei Kimura as Alice Asmodeus, Ayaka Asai as Clara Valac and Saori Hayami as Ameri. Those returning character names should make the spin-off immediately legible to existing fans, while the mafia premise gives the familiar ensemble a new set of roles.

The anime adapts the spin-off manga written and illustrated by hiroja. The manga began serialisation in Akita Shoten's Bessatsu Shonen Champion in September 2023, and its ninth compiled volume was published in Japan on October 7, according to the official website.1

What the new visual tells us

The image is doing more than confirming that the adaptation exists. Its dark staircase setting, suits and crime-family framing underline the central hook: Iruma is being recast inside a fictional mafia hierarchy. The artwork keeps the character designs recognisable while making the spin-off's alternate-world premise clear at a glance.

Kodansha USA's synopsis describes Iruma as a kind-hearted boy who helps an injured old man, only to discover that he is Don Sullivan, the leader of the Babel Mafia. Sullivan then asks Iruma to become his grandson, setting up the chaotic new life promised by the spin-off.2

Our opinion

This is a sensible visual reveal because it communicates the spin-off's identity immediately rather than relying on a familiar franchise logo alone. The cast and staff details are useful, but the strongest signal is the deliberate shift in presentation: the characters look like themselves, yet the setting makes it obvious that IruMafia Edition is playing with a different fantasy. With a fixed January 4 premiere and a 12-episode run, the project now has a clear shape beyond its novelty premise.
