The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 drops its creditless opening
Maomao is back on the palace beat. The Apothecary Diaries has put the full creditless opening for Season 3 online hours before its premiere, pairing Yorushika's new song with a sunlit title sequence — and the second cour is already pencilled in for April 2027.

The doors of the rear palace are open again. The production team behind The Apothecary Diaries has released the full creditless opening for Season 3, putting the sequence online just hours before the anime's premiere on 2 October 2026. Maomao leads the title card, perched at a window as the song builds behind her.
A new Yorushika song leads the season
The opening theme is “Kumo wo Nuke Kazashimo e Watashi Dake”, rendered into English as “Beyond the Clouds, Only Me Downwind”, performed by Yorushika. The track was written, composed and arranged by n-buna, the songwriter and guitarist who has shaped much of the duo's catalogue.
The sequence itself was storyboarded and directed by Ayaka Nakata, with Yukiko Nakatani serving as chief animation director and Kaori Saito of Wish credited as animation director. Studio OLM returns for animation production — while TOHO animation STUDIO, which worked on the series previously, does not appear on the Season 3 staff credit list.
What comes after episode one
Season 3 has been split into two cours. The first is airing now and the second is scheduled for April 2027. The season is also being positioned as a runway into the franchise's first film: The Apothecary Diaries movie lands in Japanese cinemas on 11 December 2026 with an original story written by the novels' author, Natsu Hyuga.
Behind the camera, Akinori Fudesaka directs, with Wataru Nakagawa as assistant director and Norihiro Naganuma handling series composition. Scripts come from Yuko Kakihara, Misuzu Chiba and Hitomi Ogawa, character design from Yukiko Nakatani, and art direction from Katsumi Takao. The score is shared between Satoru Kosaki, Kevin Penkin and Arisa Okehazama.
Our opinion
A creditless opening has quietly become the standard victory lap for a returning anime — drop the song, let the animation breathe, and let the fandom do the rest. What makes this one worth a second look is the credit list rather than the shot itself. Studio OLM staying on while TOHO animation STUDIO slides off the staff roll is the kind of quiet reshuffle that usually only becomes legible a dozen episodes in, and it is worth watching whether the Season 3 visuals hold the watercolour warmth the show is known for. Pairing Yorushika with n-buna on paper is also a smart bit of casting: a vocalist with a storybook register and a writer who understands how to leave space around a melody, which is exactly what a Maomao-led title sequence needs.
