Detective Precure and Ojamajo Doremi set a one-episode Halloween crossover
Detective Precure will dress as Ojamajo Doremi characters for a one-off Halloween episode airing in Japan on 25 October.
Detective Precure (『名探偵プリキュア!』) is teaming up with Ojamajo Doremi (『おジャ魔女どれみ』) for a one-episode Halloween crossover, with the special episode set to air in Japan on 25 October. The announcement comes from Toei Animation, which says the crossover will be built around the new series’ 1999 setting and the older magical-girl anime’s original broadcast era. 1
A one-episode Halloween crossover
The crossover will take place in episode 39 of Detective Precure, titled “A Witchy Halloween”. The episode follows Anna Akechi and the other members of the Curette Detective Agency as they help with a Halloween event in their shopping district. After meeting a young girl who has become separated from her mother, the team gets caught up in a mystery involving a stolen broom and a disguised attacker. 1
The four leads will dress as witch apprentices from Ojamajo Doremi. Toei’s announcement confirms that the crossover is a special one-off event rather than a permanent addition to the story, giving the production a chance to play with the visual and thematic connection between the two shows without changing the wider series. 1
The link between the two anime is deliberate. In Detective Precure, Anna travels from 2027 back to 1999, while Ojamajo Doremi originally began airing in 1999. Toei says that shared year gave the production team a natural way to connect the two series inside the episode’s story. 1
New crossover artwork
The official announcement includes a newly drawn illustration by Hirohiko Umakoshi, the character designer of Ojamajo Doremi. It shows Cure Answer meeting Doremi and gives the crossover a visual identity beyond a simple costume reference. Toei also says the illustration uses two different expressions for Cure Answer, with the versions changing according to the scene. 1
A second set of character artwork shows Anna, Mikuru, Kurea and Ruruka in their witch-apprentice outfits. The designs are intended to be part of the episode’s Halloween setup, rather than a claim that the original Ojamajo Doremi cast will appear in person. That distinction matters: the production is using the older series as a story-world reference while keeping the episode centred on the current Detective Precure team. 1
The announcement follows separate reporting that the collaboration had been confirmed for the 25 October broadcast, with episode 39 carrying the crossover. 2 Toei’s own page adds the episode synopsis, producer comments and the new artwork, making it the clearest source for what viewers can expect from the special. 1
Our opinion
This is exactly the sort of crossover that benefits from a firm story reason. The 1999 connection gives Detective Precure an excuse to celebrate Ojamajo Doremi without turning the episode into a hollow cameo parade, while the Halloween premise naturally supports the witch-apprentice costumes. The artwork also does more than place two logos together: it frames the meeting between Cure Answer and Doremi as the emotional centre of the promotion.
The event is currently announced for 25 October in Japan, with the episode airing on the regular Sunday morning slot. International viewers should treat that as the Japanese broadcast date unless their local broadcaster confirms a different schedule.
