Eishin Nitobe from the official Firefly Wedding anime trailer

The Firefly Wedding TV anime has added Kazuyuki Okitsu to its cast as Eishin Nitobe, the latest character announcement for the adaptation of Oreko Tachibana’s manga.1

Okitsu joins a cast that already includes Lynn as Satoko Kirigaya, Koki Uchiyama as Shinpei Goto, Kent Ito as Kotaro Ogawa, Kenjiro Tsuda as Mitsueda and Kanon Amane as Yukari.1 The production is being animated by david production, with Takahiro Kamei directing, Yuko Kakihara handling series composition and scripts, and Yukiko Aikei serving as character designer.1

The announcement adds another named character to a series that is already streaming on Crunchyroll. Firefly Wedding follows Satoko, a noblewoman with little time left to live, whose attempt to secure a marriage becomes entangled with Shinpei, an assassin who takes her desperate proposal seriously.1

The anime is based on Tachibana’s manga, which has been serialised since 2023. VIZ Media publishes the English edition and describes the story as a historical romance built around Satoko’s bid to escape her family’s expectations and Shinpei’s dangerous interpretation of their arrangement.1

The official trailer presents the series’ central pair and its darker romantic tone, with Shinpei shown bloodied and smiling in a visual that underlines the danger behind the courtship premise.2 The trailer is from the anime’s official promotional channel and is included below for readers who want to see the adaptation’s character designs and atmosphere.

Our opinion

Adding Eishin Nitobe is the sort of cast update that matters most to readers already following Firefly Wedding, but it also reinforces how much of the adaptation’s appeal rests on its ensemble rather than the central marriage bargain alone. Okitsu’s casting gives the production another recognisable voice to fold into a deliberately tense period-romance setup.

The announcement does not reveal a new plot twist or change the anime’s streaming status. It is a casting update, but a useful one: viewers can now put another name to the growing cast while the series continues adapting Tachibana’s story for television.
