Oreko Tachibana, the creator of Firefly Wedding (Hotaru no Yomeiri), will launch a new manga in Shogakukan's Manga ONE app this winter. The announcement was made alongside the release of the manga's 13th and final compiled volume, with the preview teasing a story about two powerful leaders who are expected to remain enemies but must never fall in love.1

The new series will be Tachibana's first major manga launch after Firefly Wedding concluded its main run in February. That series began in the Manga ONE app in January 2023 and followed Satoko, a nobleman's daughter with little time left to live, after she becomes the target of the assassin Shinpei. A desperate marriage proposal turns the attempted killing into a dangerous romantic bargain.1

Tachibana continued the original series with seven monthly spinoff chapters between February and August. The first two were titled Koi to Doku, while the remaining five were titled Hitokiri to Yōdō. Those chapters were collected alongside the final main volume, which arrived on October 13 in the English edition's eighth volume from Viz Media.1

The creator's previous work is also receiving a wider push this year. Firefly Wedding inspired an ongoing television anime that began airing on October 9, while a live-action television adaptation has been announced for 2027. Viz Media publishes the manga in English and has promoted it with an official trailer.2

The new manga's title, launch date and English licensing details have not yet been announced. For now, the early description points towards a new fantasy-romance setup built around rival rulers: a prince from a country of men and the chief of a country of women. That premise echoes Tachibana's interest in romance under pressure without simply repeating Satoko and Shinpei's story.

Our opinion

This is the kind of early announcement that works because the creative hook is already clear. There is no title or chapter preview to dissect yet, but “two leaders who must never fall in love” gives the project a sharper identity than a generic follow-up notice. Tachibana is also arriving with useful momentum: the original manga has just reached its conclusion, its anime is on air and readers have a reason to pay attention when Manga ONE reveals more.
