Nakama Press, the Mad Cave Studios imprint, has licensed Uoto’s 100 Meters manga and Buichi Terasawa’s Goku: Midnight Eye for English publication in 2027. The publisher also confirmed a new release date for its Samurai Pizza Cats comic, according to Anime News Network.1

The first volume of 100 Meters is scheduled for 17 February 2027, followed by volume two on 27 April. Nakama Press will release the first volume of Goku: Midnight Eye on 2 March 2027.1

Three different corners of manga

100 Meters follows Togashi, a naturally gifted sprinter whose understanding of winning is challenged by a rival. The story tracks the pair from childhood into adolescence, turning a straightforward race into a psychological rivalry shaped by talent, obsession and the pressure to improve.1

Uoto launched the manga in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket app in November 2018. Kodansha published its fifth and final compiled volume digitally in October 2019. The manga later received an animated film adaptation, which premiered in Japan in September 2025.1

Nakama Press is presenting the English edition as a two-volume release, with the first book due in February and the second following in April. The publisher shared a cover and sample pages in English, giving readers an early look at the edition’s presentation.1

Goku returns to near-future Tokyo

Goku: Midnight Eye centres on a private investigator who gains a cybernetic eye after a brutal attack. The implant lets him hack systems by looking at them, drawing him into cases where high-tech crime, corruption and conspiracies collide.1

Terasawa’s manga originally ran for three volumes from 1987. Its anime adaptation was directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri at Madhouse, with Terasawa and Ryuzo Nakanishi credited on the script. The original OVA and its sequel were released in 1989.1

The property has already had several English-language home-video releases. Discotek released Goku: Midnight Eye on Blu-ray in 2023 under the title Midnight Eye Goku, including two dubs, but Nakama Press’ announcement brings the manga itself to a new English print edition in 2027.1

Samurai Pizza Cats moves to December

Nakama Press also told Anime News Network that its new 200-page middle-grade comic inspired by Samurai Pizza Cats will now be released on 8 December. The comic was originally announced for 7 April this year, making the new date a substantial shift for readers waiting for the adaptation-inspired project.1

The announcement gives Nakama Press three distinct strands of catalogue news: a contemporary sports rivalry in 100 Meters, a cyberpunk detective story in Goku: Midnight Eye and a new middle-grade take inspired by a much-loved anime property. They are separate releases, but together they show the imprint balancing new manga editions with projects built around recognisable genre worlds.

Our opinion

The most immediately intriguing part of the announcement is the contrast between the two manga licences. 100 Meters is a tightly focused character story built around competition and personal history, while Goku: Midnight Eye offers a pulpy cyberpunk detective setup with a much older visual and genre lineage. They should appeal to different readers, which makes the pairing feel like a deliberate statement about the breadth of Nakama Press’ 2027 list rather than a single-theme acquisition.

The timing also helps. The 100 Meters animated film has already introduced Uoto’s work to viewers beyond the original manga, while Goku: Midnight Eye arrives with an established anime legacy and a recognisable creator behind it. The important next step will be how the English editions handle the original material, including their presentation, translation and release consistency.

For now, the confirmed dates are clear: 100 Meters volume one arrives on 17 February 2027, Goku: Midnight Eye volume one follows on 2 March, and 100 Meters volume two is scheduled for 27 April. Samurai Pizza Cats is due on 8 December.1
