A new curse-busting manga from yoruhashi

Creator yoruhashi, best known to international readers for The Kingdoms of Ruin, is launching a new manga in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shonen Champion. Tatarigatachi -Native God Interception Academy- begins in the magazine's 47th issue, which goes on sale in Japan on Thursday, October 22. 1

The announcement appeared in the magazine's autumn new-series preview. The publisher describes the project as a large-scale sword-action revenge story, while the available synopsis centres on a boy named Raran. His older sister regularly prays to a cat god in the mountains, but she eventually becomes a victim of a divine disaster. Raran then vows to destroy every curse.

That premise puts the new series in a much darker lane than a simple school or supernatural adventure pitch. The official preview positions the manga around curses, gods and revenge, with yoruhashi's name prominently attached to the launch artwork. It also advertises a substantial 66-page first chapter, giving readers a sizeable introduction when the new issue arrives. 1

Why it matters

Tatarigatachi is yoruhashi's latest major serial after Rega in the Sleeping Forest, which began in 2025 and ended its first published run in March 2026. The creator's best-known work, The Kingdoms of Ruin, concluded in Japan with its 15th compiled volume in July, while the anime adaptation brought the series to a wider international audience.

For now, the new manga's launch information is limited to its Japanese magazine debut. There is no confirmed English-language release announced in the source material, and the translated subtitle above is a descriptive rendering rather than a separate licensed English title. Readers outside Japan should therefore treat Thursday's launch as a Japanese serialisation date, not a global release.

Anime News Network reports that the series will follow Raran's attempt to destroy curses after the tragedy affecting his sister, and identifies Weekly Shonen Champion issue 47 as the launch issue. 2 The official preview also confirms the 66-page opening chapter and the October 22 publication date. 1

Our opinion

This is a promising hook for readers who like their supernatural manga to begin with an immediate personal grievance rather than a slow-burn mystery. The combination of mountain folklore, divine catastrophe and a protagonist determined to fight curses gives Tatarigatachi a clear identity before its first chapter has even landed. The 66-page opening should also give yoruhashi room to establish Raran's world properly, rather than asking readers to judge the series from a brief introductory chapter. The sensible expectation, though, is cautious curiosity: until the manga launches, its strongest selling points are the premise and the creator's track record, not proof that the new series will match The Kingdoms of Ruin.
