The upcoming Witch on the Holy Night anime film has revealed a new set of “Battle Ver.” character visuals for Aoko Aozaki, Alice Kuonji and Soujyurou Sizuki. The film is based on TYPE-MOON’s visual novel and is being animated by ufotable. 1

The new visuals arrive ahead of the film’s Japanese theatrical release on November 20, 2026. Internationally, the film is scheduled to reach more than 45 countries and regions, beginning with a US theatrical release on January 29, 2027. 1

What the new visuals show

The campaign focuses on the three central characters in battle-ready poses rather than presenting another general key visual. Aoko, Alice and Soujyurou form the core of the film’s supernatural story, which is set in the late 1980s and follows an ordinary young man whose life becomes entangled with two witches. 1

The film is an adaptation of TYPE-MOON’s Witch on the Holy Night visual novel, first released for PC in 2012. The story follows Aoko Aozaki as she learns to live as an apprentice Magician alongside Alice Kuonji, before meeting Soujyurou and beginning a much larger supernatural conflict. 1

ufotable is handling the animation. The studio is best known internationally for its work on Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, the Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel trilogy and Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works. 1

Release dates and source context

The film’s Japanese cinema release is set for November 20, while the wider rollout begins in the United States on January 29, 2027. Those dates follow the previously reported worldwide-release announcement, making the new Battle Ver. visuals a promotional update rather than a change to the schedule. 12

The official trailer presents the same central cast and confirms the film’s focus on TYPE-MOON’s supernatural coming-of-age story. It also gives international viewers a clearer look at the visual direction ufotable is bringing to the adaptation. 3

Our opinion

These visuals are a useful step up from a routine cast announcement because they show how the film wants to frame its three leads: Aoko and Alice as formidable magical figures, with Soujyurou caught in the middle of their dangerous world. The important question now is whether the finished film can give that trio enough room to breathe when it arrives in cinemas. The release plan is already unusually broad for a TYPE-MOON adaptation, so this campaign is doing the right job by selling the characters and atmosphere rather than trying to explain every piece of its lore.

For now, the November 20 Japanese premiere remains the date to watch, with the US release following on January 29, 2027.
