The World's Strongest Witch anime adds Yukana and Azusa Tadokoro

Yukana and Azusa Tadokoro join The World's Strongest Witch anime as Elhaur and Zariche ahead of episode 4.

The anime adaptation of The World's Strongest Witch: I'm Starting My Free Life in a World Where Only I Can See the Online Strategy Guide has added Yukana and Azusa Tadokoro to its cast. The two voice actors will appear as new characters in episode 4, which airs in Japan on Wednesday, according to the show's official website and Anime News Network.12

Two new characters enter the story

Yukana will voice Elhaur, the elf queen, while Azusa Tadokoro will play Zariche, Elhaur's chief doctor.12 The official episode 4 preview places the story in an elf village, where protagonist Lorna and the elf princess Elna encounter a community suffering from a mysterious illness. Lorna's unusual ability, which gives her access to vast amounts of online knowledge, becomes central to the attempt to help them.1

The official material also hints that Zariche may be more complicated than her respectable medical role suggests. Her arrival, alongside Elhaur's illness and the village's wider crisis, looks set to push the series beyond its early adventure setup and into a more focused story about the consequences of Lorna's knowledge.1

Episode 4 follows the anime's October debut

The World's Strongest Witch began airing in Japan on October 7. Episode 4 is titled "I Tried to Stop the Ambition!" in the official synopsis, and follows Lorna after she rescues Elna in the forest and is invited into the elf settlement.1 The episode's preview images show Lorna alongside the elf characters and introduce the visual designs for Elhaur and Zariche.

The series is based on Mochimaru Sakaki's light novels. Yen Press is releasing the novels in English, while Crunchyroll streams the anime as it airs and is also handling an English dub.2 The current cast includes Azusa Tachibana as Lorna, Fairouz Ai as Erimina, Honoka Inoue as Eluna, Kana Hanazawa as Aries Tear Bluemoon, Maria Naganawa as Ruru Ru Rie, Yuto Uemura as Reinhardt Highwind and Nana Mizuki as Yggdrasil.2

Jōji Furuta directs the anime at Bridge and Aisle, with Shoji Yonemura handling series composition and Yūki Morimoto designing the characters.2 HoneyWorks feat. HaKoniwalily perform the opening theme, while Rokudenashi perform the ending theme.2

What to expect from the new cast

The announcement is a straightforward cast expansion rather than a new season or a change to the show's release schedule. Elhaur and Zariche are being introduced as part of the story's next immediate arc, with both characters set to appear in the fourth episode.1 That makes the pair relevant to viewers following the current broadcast, while the official preview's emphasis on the elf village gives the episode a distinct setting and conflict.

The series' central joke is that Lorna's supposedly useless SSS-rank skill, "Internet", gives her access to knowledge that looks almost miraculous in a fantasy world. Episode 4 appears ready to test that premise against a problem that cannot be solved simply by finding an item or looking up an answer: the health of an entire community, and the motives of the people responsible for treating it.12

Our opinion

Adding Elhaur and Zariche at this point gives The World's Strongest Witch a useful opportunity to show whether its comedy and wish-fulfilment premise can support a more involved mini-arc. Lorna's knowledge is funny when it lets her outsmart a conventional fantasy problem, but it becomes more interesting when the information she has cannot automatically tell her whom to trust. The official preview's suggestion that Zariche has a hidden agenda gives the fourth episode a sharper hook than a simple introduction of two more supporting characters. Yukana and Azusa Tadokoro also bring recognisable voices to roles that appear likely to shape the show's next stretch, making this a cast update worth watching rather than routine weekly housekeeping.
