Kana delays Inio Asano’s Before Dawn and the End of the World to March 2027
Abrams ComicArts’ Kana imprint has moved the English-language short-story collection to 4 March, after originally scheduling it for November.
Inio Asano’s Before Dawn and the End of the World has a new English publication date. Abrams ComicArts’ Kana imprint now plans to release the short-story collection on 4 March 2027, after previously listing it for November.
Kana’s announcement describes ten short stories about people balancing jaded everyday life with the small moments that keep them moving towards another sunrise.
A collection from Asano’s early work
The Japanese collection, Sekai no Owari to Yoake Mae, ran in Shogakukan’s Big Comic Spirits between 2005 and 2008. Shogakukan collected the stories into a single volume in October 2008.
What the new edition contains
The anthology begins with “Before Dawn” and ends with “The End of the World”. Kana frames it as melancholic and hopeful, with each story offering a glimpse into somebody else’s life.
A delay, not a cancellation
The March date is a schedule change rather than a withdrawal. Readers should treat 4 March 2027 as the current planned English publication date, while remembering that publishing schedules can move again. No price was included in the checked announcement.
Our opinion
Asano’s shorter work can hit with the same uncomfortable precision as his longer manga, and an English collection of ten previously unpublished stories is a strong proposition even without an adaptation or franchise hook.
Kana now has a promising spring release on its hands. Readers after intimate, bruising stories about ordinary lives should keep 4 March marked, while accepting that the date remains a publisher schedule rather than a guarantee.
